This Open Source Religion I’ve titled “We, The Hallowed,” was named as such to exemplify a collective of individuals that celebrate and sanctify individualism that is shared and imparted among a collective: “Us, the saintly selves.”
The unifying objective that will weave throughout this forum as I’ve come to simplify is “everyone is Luke Skywalker in their own Star Wars.” We are all the chosen ones, and we must acknowledge that our hero’s journey is a journey intersected by everyone’s else’s voyage of self. So, introducing the beginnings of the movement ,without my insular tales, share this sentiment. I would hate to divert attention away from the ideas and onto myself, for that seems hypocritical. I am in no way the proprietor, leader, or face of this movement – we all are.
Eventually I will allow my content that fills this workbook, the backbone of WTH: the “Doctrina,” to create my personal manifesto, “THE LIBER EGOS”, to be shared. This will help facilitate WTH’s objectives through example. You see, the organization, exercises, and content within this workbook act as your personal registry, forever available for updates, while exemplifying the whole of the ideology.
The process is a simple three workbook system.
The first, a guide: THE LIBER DOCTRINA, the second – The Doctrina personalized with a personal statement of current personal beliefs and questions: THE LIBER EGOS, and thirdly, a collection of each member’s completed LIBER EGOS to create an overarching text of the movement: THE LIBER NOSOTROS.
In other words: Each member is provided with a content-void DOCTRINA to fill and constitute as their LIBER EGOS. EGOS from each participant will be sermonized by the author every time an advancement of content is made. The congregation will note the redundancies, or commonalities among the EGOS personal manifestos, thus forming into the over-arching and ever-evolving text of the movement as a whole: THE LIBER NOSOTROS…
THESE OPEN SOURCE RELIGIOUS TEXTS ARE CELEBRATED BY SCRUTINY, REVISION AND DISCUSSION. THESE WILL HELP FACILITATE THE IMPORTANCE OF NOTING OUR EVOLUTION AS HUMAN BEINGS WHILE FINDING SOLACE IN ONE ANOTHER’S JOURNEYS.
The guidelines are the doctrines of the collective, while the content of the EGOS are your doctrines. These guidelines are simplified with organizational terms and sectors that will help you organize your ever-evolving pillars of belief.
The layout is the message. This is a “religious” text that is a template. And with your content, we will be able to share and expand ourselves and one another with its common language. It is intended that, within this movement we consistently update a collective Libris (LIBER NOSOTROS) with commonalities found among the personal tomes – forever unifying two major texts: your’s and the collective’s. Over time, given expansion and enough practice, the personal and sect texts will feed into a universal Libris. As previously expressed, I am to show you mine first. This is in hopes of one day, along with yours, attributing to an all encompassing WE, THE HALLOWED “LIBER NOSOTROS” text that is celebratory updated and deconstructed with every individual’s participation and insight.
It would be smart to allow each service’s a unique minister that present their completed LIBER EGOS. These ministers will have reign of the ceremony and be able to appoint members of their choosing for their presentation. But a roster of specific duties is necessary for the core group. The roster will represent each member’s role after completion of their EGOS. They shall be named one of the 7 Exceptions illustrated in THE LIBER DOCTRINA. The roles are unique titles cast to every participant – utilitarian nicknames if you will – while LIGHTBOX is used as the main synagogue of this mythos. There shall be no singular face or named leader of the movement, as that would be hypocritical to the purpose.
As the LIBER NOSOTROS is expanded, the consistent experimentation of ceremony, performance, and ritual will be necessary to find our identity through community. This collective will ensure an artistic identity that can act as an umbrella to the multiple art projects this collective produces. We will have a unifying mark in the arts and entertainment world, working with Lightbox Kulturhaus to incorporate events, classes, workshops, salons, and performances under the tutelage of WE, THE HALLOWED. Unifying the most disparate and unlikely corners of our artistic output to help administer a common base and platform of our society.
It is my intention to create conceptual pieces specific to the LIBER EGOS/NOSOTROS utilizing my ordained title/role as Revelator to include duty as band leader and hymnal scribe. “SPARE SPELLS”, a conceptual and experimental rocknroll group I have formed, will contain lyrics pertaining to WTH practices and content. This band can be characterized as the traveling choir for the movement, marrying tour with outreach as the WTH equivalent of mission work, by providing other WTH’s artistic output, literature, and information at various shows. It is important no output’s intention is overshadowed by the WTH moniker, and for WTH to simply act as a label. SPARE SPELLS is to never be aggressive with its ties but all information will be available and discussed when prompted and is a prime candidate for a progressive and innovative face to represent WTH.
In the future it is my great dream to rotate a variety of musical acts to participate in each service as if it were an art-installation performance show with integrated music.
In short: All of my artistic output, whether or not directly associated with WTH will bear the WTH Sigil in some capacity.This creates a consistent flow of projects in disparate mediums while documenting and watermarking a long term lineage.
It would be dishonest for me to say that this isn’t a sort of Religious Anonymous, or a unifying support group for those with theological grievances, like grievances birthed by the alienation of religious backgrounds. It is in essence, an art community with fervent discussion of the bigger questions, utilizing a new language to circumvent old and uncomfortable connotations about spirituality. It is my hope that this language administers these new connotations to spiritual terms otherwise scoffed at by us unbaptized or non practicing inquisitors. As you’ll see, I will purport a new lexicon of reinterpreted terminology.
It made sense, through satire and hubris, to deconstruct the major religious factions by re-appropriating and adopting their rituals and jargon, thus reconstituting any negative tones that resonate through concept of “religion.” We shall reinterpret the positive testaments of integration, good will, and study of self while negating the fear, punishment, conversion, monetary objectives, and unquestionable dogma most of these religions encompass.
Using the “church” and “religion” structure, we may also seek the legal recourse to ensure our safety from outside interference. The uninitiated (i.e. the government) are to view us as a religious movement to allow us the strength to help make WE, THE HALLOWED a legitimate and legal identity. This will also allow us to continue our practices without intervention or prosecution. We will play their game, on paper, to ensure the avoidance of scrutiny. The advent of becoming a recognized spiritual organization will implement proceedings that resemble those of other churches… Weekly (or however often) meetings and events will be commonplace.
Experiments in creating ceremony, ritual, and practice will help focus the format where a collective that celebrates individuality may stumble, providing commonalities in the overarching principles. Therefore, every “service” can be ministered by a different individual of the congregation, as previously stated, while streamlined through WTH’s outline and format. The motifs weave throughout the meetings to fortify the concepts of WTH’s “collective of self”. Also, its necessary (albeit possibly mundane) to concoct these procedures not only for form and practice but advantageous in that the sessions help meet requirements imposed by the government to be recognized.
